Boundary Holding Exits CerbAir Investment as Anti-Drone Technology Gains Global Importance

Boundary Holding, a Luxembourg-based deep-tech investment firm founded by Rajat Khare, has exited its investment in CerbAir, a French company specializing in counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS). The exit follows the acquisition of CerbAir by French asset management company Latour Capital, with participation from the Defence Innovation Fund managed by Bpifrance.

The transaction marks the end of Boundary Holding’s investment period in CerbAir and comes as counter-drone technology becomes increasingly relevant to defense and security organizations worldwide.

Boundary Holding’s Investment in CerbAir

Boundary Holding invested in CerbAir in 2019, at a time when counter-drone technology was beginning to attract greater attention from defense and security markets.

After approximately seven years, Boundary Holding has now exited its position following Latour Capital’s acquisition of the French company. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

For Boundary Holding, the CerbAir investment involved more than providing financial capital. The firm also supported CerbAir’s efforts to identify international opportunities, including strengthening its access to the Indian market through its established networks and relationships.

Rajat Khare highlighted the broader role investors can play in supporting technology companies:

“An investment having a real impact is one where the investor can bring more than capital. Beyond financing, our other essential role is to help companies enter new markets and establish strategic relationships.”

CerbAir Develops Counter-Drone Technology

Founded in 2015, CerbAir develops technologies designed to detect and counter unauthorized or potentially hostile drones. Its solutions include systems based on radio-frequency technologies that can help identify and respond to unmanned aerial threats.

According to information provided by the company, CerbAir’s systems have been deployed across 30 countries.

The acquisition by Latour Capital is intended to support CerbAir’s next stage of development, including its ambition to expand its position in the global counter-drone market.

Growing Importance of Anti-Drone Systems

The development of counter-drone technology has gained greater attention as drones become more accessible, capable, and widely used.

Unmanned aerial systems can serve legitimate commercial, industrial, and public-sector purposes, but they can also create security challenges around military facilities, critical infrastructure, borders, airports, and civilian areas.

The increasing use of autonomous systems and drone swarms has further increased the need for technologies capable of detecting, identifying, and responding to unauthorized aerial activity.

As a result, counter-unmanned aircraft systems are becoming an increasingly important component of modern security and defense infrastructure.

Rajat Khare on the Future of Counter-Drone Technology

Rajat Khare said Boundary Holding identified the potential importance of anti-drone technology when it invested in CerbAir in 2019.

“Even before investing in the company in 2019, we believed that anti-drone technology would become increasingly important as drones became more accessible and capable. Developments in recent years have clearly reinforced this assessment.”

The firm is now looking at the next generation of technologies that can address emerging security requirements, particularly solutions incorporating artificial intelligence.

Boundary Holding Looks Toward New Defense Technologies

Following its exit from CerbAir, Boundary Holding plans to redeploy its experience and capital toward emerging European defense technologies.

The investment firm is particularly interested in companies developing advanced counter-drone capabilities and other technologies that combine artificial intelligence with detection, sensing, and autonomous systems.

Khare noted:

“The current environment is becoming increasingly challenging. Defensive technologies capable of identifying and countering hostile aerial threats have become essential for protecting sovereignty, critical infrastructure, and civilian areas. We see significant potential in the next generation of AI-based anti-drone technologies and will continue to look for innovative companies in this field.”

The CerbAir exit therefore represents a transition for Boundary Holding from an established counter-drone investment toward exploring new opportunities in advanced defense and deep-tech technologies.
